Big Weekend in Blakely

There's a film festival, block party and performance by Sawyer Brown this weekend in the small town of Blakely, Ga. The opening ceremony and registration for the Jokara-Micheaux Film Festival is from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. today at the First Methodist Church, 397 Church St. Orientation is from 8:30 to 10: 30 a.m. today at the Blakely Cine-Plex, 62 N. Main St. There will be screenings of faith-based films from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the cine-plex. Workshops such as "Is there a market for faith-based films?" begin at 9 a.m. and continue throughout the day today and Saturday. The free block party is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on the Blakely Court Square. Expect activities for folks of all ages. Sawyer Brown plays at 2:30 p.m., and Ronnie Robinson and the Legends also will add to the musical fun. There's a black-tie gala at the Jokara-Micheaux Production Studio in Colquitt on Saturday night.
