Mural Project

The Early County Mural Project Program, a joint venture of Blakely Hometown Committee, Early County 2055, and Barton Rice, executive director of Early County 2055 features eight murals depicting significant historical events that occurred in Early County. The program is not only enhancing Blakely’s downtown area, it is the pride of a community proud of its history as one of the original counties in Georgia.

The murals are seven feet high and 13 feet long. The strategically placed group of murals, include ‘Kolomoki Mounds’, painted by Wes Hardin, a renowned artist from Dothan, Ala and ‘Indian Mounds in Early County’, painted in 1937 by Daniel Putnam Brinley of New Canaan, Conn.

The Blakely Mural Project has been included in the International Mural Festival held in the area each fall when a group of approximately 200 people from all over the world tour to view local community’s mural displays.
