The Event of the Year!

Sawyer Browns famous country music will be a central attraction Saturday during the Early County 2055 Labor Day Weekend Celebration. In addition, Ronnie Robinson and the Legends will also be part of the Court Square activities Saturday. Admission is free.

This year Early County 2055 is hosting a celebration that everyone will remember. There will be activities for all ages on Court Square in Blakely from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. said Lisa Collins, project director, Early County 2055.

The weekend also heralds an exciting line-up of independent films and symposiums when the Second Annual Jokara-Micheaux Film Festival kicks off Friday. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Blakely Cine-Plex on North Main (the old Early Furniture building).

Premier screenings, documentaries and shorts are planned and educational symposiums led by film industry professionals and celebrities are scheduled throughout the weekend. A Black-Tie Gala will take place at the Jokara-Micheaux Production Studio in Colquitt Saturday evening.

This years films and speakers will focus on movies that can make a positive impact on society and provide valuable cultural insights to all viewers, young and old alike.

The festival website, www.swgafestival.com provides information for film submissions, sponsorship and volunteer opportunities. Hosted by non-profit organizations Early County 2055 and Henny Penny Video/TV Productions, Inc., as well as the Southwest Georgia Film Commission, the film festival will take place at venues in Blakely and Colquitt.
